LIFE ALL-IN progress on Elastic extrusion

Fameccanica, coordinator of the LIFE ALL-IN project, has validated an important milestone: the elastic extrusion process into the AHPs machine, that will avoid the use of pre-made elastics filaments and thus improving machine efficiency.

Fameccanica strategy

Fameccanica used a strategy to qualify the process in two steps:

  1. Validation of the NW corrugation process, called ARIEL. This process is realized in the correct width necessary for the in-line creation of elastic waist band for both for adult and baby pant diapers
  2. Validation of the in-line extrusion on Ariel waist band. This step makes possible to validate the process and product with in-line extruded elastics

Focus on the elastic extrusion process

Fameccanica realized the complete validation of the process at 300 m/min.

The activities done are the following:

  • Definition of the best layout for the process
  • Definition of the best setting
  • Definition of the reference product quality
  • Made the long run for process stability validation
  • Made splice test and stress test to simulate in-line production

Focus on extrusion test

After defining the best extruder system Fameccanica worked on layout and technology to crystallize the elastic filament before stretching them. At final, Fameccanica obtained the final configuration for the long run.

Conclusion

Fameccanica validated ARIEL, the in-line elastics extrusion in narrow band and the corrugation process, on final product width. The combination of the two process allows Fameccanica to design the final process and to propose it to customers.
